Pursuant to Senate Bill 653passed by the 82nd Texas Legislature and signed by the Governor, the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD or Agency) was created on December1, 2011 and the existing Texas Juvenile Probation Commission (TJPC) and TexasYouth Commission (TYC) were abolished. TJJD serves the state and counties ofTexas by providing residential correctional detention facilities. Ensuring thesafety and well-being of the youth is the foundation of providing treatment andrehabilitation. As such, we seek to implement an OMTS that provides the ability to perform safety checks of youth in their cells as well as aid the Agency with identifying risks anddetrimental behaviors.
