City of Brooksville Parks and Recreation Master Plan

The City of Brooksville, located in East Central Hernando County, Florida, is just 45 miles north of Tampa and 15 miles east of the Gulf of Mexico. Brooksville is a full-service City with a Council-Manager form of Government and is home to 9,481 residents within 11 sq. miles and is home to historic residences along brick streets and serves as the county seat.

Parks and Recreation provide resources and services for the purposes of leisure, entertainment, and recreational pursuits. Resources include public spaces and facilities like parks, nature preserves, open space areas, greenways, trails, and built structures for sport, recreation, or art programs. In addition, the Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for ensuring that citizens have spaces to exercise, play, and for other activities to improve their quality of life.

The City aims to provide the fair and just access to quality parks, programs, services, and experiences that energize visitors and create life-long users and advocates. In addition, the City endeavors to provide and promote safe, healthy, and enriching recreational and educational opportunities that promote stewardship of Brooksville’s natural and cultural heritage.

The City seeks to establish a strategic plan for its recreation and parks system that will guide decision-making regarding operations, maintenance, and capital improvements over the next ten years.
