The scope of work for this project shall consist of effectively reconstructing Duke St from Kilgore Rd to Denway Dr. The road, Duke St, is categorized as a City local street, however, it sees some commercial traffic and is a Metro bus route. Therefore, this project is planned to incorporate a 3-inch mill and resurface with spot Subgrade Undercutting, Type II (to repair failed road subgrade). Subgrade Undercutting, Type II, will utilized 21AA aggregate, compacted to 95% density, to repair poor subgrade prior to the area being restored per standard City street section. Areas for subgrade undercutting will be marked by the Engineer following milling of the existing asphalt. The plan sheets show areas of planned subgrade undercutting based on visual inspection and information gained from pavement cores taken in 2021.
After milling, subgrade undercutting, concrete curb removal & repair, and base repair work is completed, the roadway will be repaved in accordance with the plans. Repaving work will include rolled HMA curb in accordance with the typical section as shown on the plans from STA 12+32 to 24+77. Rolled curb is included in the pay items for paving and will not be paid for separately. Rolled curb should be constructed with a paver screed attachment or device approved by the Engineer. Limits of milling and repaving will be marked as indicated on the plans.
Following the above items of work, the roadway will then be restriped in accordance with the pavement marking plan sheets (M1-M11). Pavement marking work will occur on Duke St from Kilgore Rd to Whites Rd. The typical sections, as shown on the plans, will add in bike facilities and additional crosswalk markings.
All necessary traffic control, labor, materials, tools, equipment, and other items incidental to the work being performed shall be included in the Contractor’s unit price for this contract. Such items will not be bid or paid for separately but shall be included in the overall unit price.
The bidder shall furnish all labor, supervision, supplies, tools, equipment, and other means necessary or proper for performing and completing the work. The bidder shall be responsible for the cleaning up of the job site and shall repair or restore all structures and property that may be damaged or disturbed during performance of the work to the satisfaction of the Public Services Department for the City of Kalamazoo. Drainage structure covers shall be salvaged and reused if in usable condition; otherwise, they shall be replaced. Where needed, all traffic control used for such operations as defined by the MMUTCD will be the responsibility of the bidder.
The bidder shall have all work completed by September 1, 2023.
