  • Summary It is the intent of these plans and specifications to provide for a general contractor who shall provide all labor, materials, tools and equipment necessary to perform in a professional manner for the Thompson St. Curb & Gutter Repairs project as described in the specifications and bid document.

The scope of work for this project shall consist of the following items of work:

• Removing broken and damaged curb & gutter sections on Thompson St. between Academy St. and Main St.

• Placing new curb & gutter, detail C4, in areas of removed curb & gutter on Thompson St. between Academy St. and Main St.

• Placing sidewalk retaining wall, integral, behind the newly placed curb & gutter to retain slopes where necessary. Locations to be marked and identified by Engineer on Thompson St. between Academy St. and Main St.

• Brick surface restoration adjacent to the newly placed curb & gutter.

o Bricks to be supplied by Kalamazoo College:

o Any additional bricks necessary to be supplemented from City stores.

• Brick surface restoration in areas of potholes, damage, or HMA patches on Thompson St. & Academy St. as marked out by Engineer.

All necessary traffic control, labor, materials, tools, equipment, and other items incidental to the work being performed shall be included in the Contractor’s unit price for this contract. Such items will not be bid or paid for separately but shall be included in the overall unit price.

The bidder shall furnish all labor, supervision, supplies, tools, equipment, and other means necessary or proper for performing and completing the work. The bidder shall be responsible for the cleaning up of the job site and shall repair or restore all structures and property that may be damaged or disturbed during performance of the work to the satisfaction of the Public Services Department for the City of Kalamazoo. Drainage structure covers shall be salvaged and reused if in usable condition; otherwise, they shall be replaced. Where needed, all traffic control used for such operations as defined by the MMUTCD will be the responsibility of the bidder.

The bidder shall have all work completed within one (1) month (30 calendar days) of work commencing on the project or November 1, 2023; whichever is earlier.
