Transportation is responsible for approximately 36% of all greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in New York State. In support of the State’s nation-leading GHG emissions reduction goals—targeting 40% reduction of GHG emissions by 2030, and 85% by 2050— New York State has developed an integrated, long-term policy approach to addressing emissions from the transportation sector. By increasing the use of electric vehicles (EVs) and EV chargers, New York State will reduce harmful emissions, petroleum dependence, and achieve its transportation decarbonization goals. In particular, increased installation of Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC) infrastructure will help meet the needs of growing EV populations, counter range anxiety concerns, and accelerate EV adoption in New York State.
Through two rounds of the DCFC Program, NYSERDA will solicit proposals to develop DCFC Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) in select New York State Regional Economic Development Councils (REDCs). Deployment of DCFC infrastructure has been slow to date due to a set of inter-linked barriers such as high installation costs (e.g., equipment, labor, and other soft costs), low utilization, and uncertain future vehicle technology. This Program is intended to reduce the cost of purchasing and installing DCFC EVSE for use in New York State and ultimately accelerate EV adoption. Round 1 applications will be accepted through February 18, 2021. |
