Description

The Town of Smithers (the Town) is seeking quotations from professional environmental engineering companies to conduct a hydrogeological study at the site of a proposed new snow dump. In the summer of 2024, the Town will donate land to Northern Health for the construction of a new long-term care facility. Historically, this site has been used as the Town’s snow dump. Therefore, the Town is proposing the Public Works Yard site, located at the existing Fire Training Centre adjacent to Pacific Avenue, as the new location for the snow dump.
The potential new snow dump site is situated directly above Aquifer #585, which serves as the municipal water supply. Given the potential contaminants that may accumulate from snow collected along the road network, it is essential for the Town to assess the possible environmental impacts of depositing snow at this location on the water supply.
Therefore, the Town of Smithers is requesting quotations from qualified environmental engineering companies to analyse the potential risk of contamination to Aquifer #585.
