Royal University Hospital Emergency Power Expansion Construction
Synopsis:
This project is for the first phase of a larger initiative to expand and upgrade the emergency power distribution at the Royal University Hospital (RUH) by increasing the load demand on the newly constructed generator plant to provide more emergency power throughout the hospital and the RUH campus and thus improve patient safety. Currently, the electrical distribution is comprised of a 2400V distribution originating from a 25kV service from the University of Saskatchewan, which is then converted to 600V and/or 120/280V distributions closer to the hospital loads. Existing 2400V conductors are rated to 5000V, so a conversion from 2400V to 4160V is a large component of this project.
Phase 1 work involves the procurement and installation of equipment to replace transformer T3, convert existing loads on transformer T3 to 4160v with a new distribution system, and transfer to emergency power with a new transfer switch (existing loads are mainly comprised of normal power load centers within the hospital). Refer to attached drawings and specifications for details.

Additional Information:

Work also includes the installation of new active harmonic filter units at select distribution substations to address harmonics and power factor correction. Refer to attached drawings and specifications for details.
