Overview
The
Pierce County
Planning and Public Works department
is seeking to fund a program or project that employs evidence-based solutions that focus on people, places, and policy to improve the quality of life, health, and well-being of people who reside in or near the Parkland and Spanaway areas.
The Pierce County Council has appropriated $ 500,000 toward community health initiatives. Specifically, a program or project whose mission is to improve the overall health, quality of life, and longevity of residents in the Parkland and Spanaway areas by creating supportive environments where healthy living becomes the easy and accessible choice. The objectives of the selected program or project will be to:

Increase healthy life expectancy among residents.

Improve community health and well-being indicators.

Reduce preventable chronic disease rates.

Strengthen social connections and sense of belonging.

Create policy, system, and environmental changes that promote healthy living.
To date, significant efforts have been made in Parkland-Spanaway to improve the community’s quality of life. The selected applicant will build upon these initiatives, including those outlined in the
Blue Zones Project Parkland-Spanaway
Blueprint.
