The City of Centerville, in partnership with the Centerville Arts Commission and Keep Centerville Beautiful, invites qualified artists to submit their credentials for consideration in creating the Stubbs Park Storybook Trail Mural.

This mural will be located on the concrete retaining wall north of the Stubbs Park Amphitheater plaza and is intended to complement the Storybook Trail experience.

The artwork should reflect a whimsical, storybook illustration style with a focus on nature, trees and outdoor themes, aligning with the visual character of the Storybook Trail. A photo with approximate measurements of the mural location is provided in Attachment 1. Reference images from the Storybook Trail are included in Attachment 2.

Artists may incorporate subtle references to Stubbs Park features such as the Monkey House, Amphitheater, Veterans Memorial, Miami Valley Firefighter/EMS Memorial, playgrounds or other elements.

This Request for Qualifications (RFQ) does not require artists to submit a preliminary rendering or conceptual design with their application; however, they may include one if they wish.

Selected artists must be prepared to move immediately into design finalization and installation, following the established project timeline.

Compensation
  • The selected artist will receive a $10,000 stipend, which must cover all project-related expenses, including artist labor, paint and any necessary materials and supplies.
  • The artist may engage supporting artists and is responsible for ensuring fair compensation.

  • Enhance the Storybook Trail experience through engaging public art
  • Attract visitors to Stubbs Park
  • Encourage stewardship of public spaces
  • Provide opportunities for artists

  • Location: Concrete retaining wall north of the Stubbs Park amphitheater plaza
  • Address: 255 W. Spring Valley Rd., Centerville, OH
  • Installation Timeline: June–July 2026
  • Completion Deadline: July 4, 2026
  • Dimensions: 120 feet wide overall; the center 85 feet is 6 feet tall, with the height tapering down at both ends of the wall
  • Medium: Durable outdoor mural materials (e.g., acrylic paint)
  • Prep: Artist must prepare the surface to ensure proper paint adhesion
Eligibility
  • Open to all professional visual artists
  • Local and regional artists encouraged
  • Lead artist must have mural experience and leadership ability
  • Lead artist responsible for managing supporting artists
