Hydrogen Sulfide Contamination
Description:
The NYS Department of Public Service’s Office of Investigation and Enforcement (OIE) is seeking to hire a subject matter expert to assist with an ongoing investigation into a hydrogen sulfide (H2S) contamination incident involving Renewable Natural Gas. The investigation involves multiple regulated gas companies and has been ongoing since January 2025. OIE has identified that Part 229 regulations regarding H2S contamination are outdated, poorly drafted, and potentially challenging to implement. Further, OIE has discovered that other States (e.g., Connecticut, Colorado, etc.) have updated their H2S regulations given the introduction of RNG into their gas distribution networks.
