The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) is seeking input from CSBs, behavioral health providers, and other stakeholders to better understand the systemic and operational barriers preventing the establishment and/or expansion of adolescent (ages 12-17) and/or young adults (ages 18â25) residential substance use treatment services at American Society for Addiction Medicine (ASAM 3.7) level of care. The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) defines Level 3.7 care as medically monitored intensive inpatient treatment. This means clients receive round-the clock medical and nursing supervision within a residential settingânot a hospital, but more medically intensive than standard inpatient rehab.
