PROJECT SUMMARY
1. Introduction
1.1. The University of Alberta Museums (hereinafter the “UAM”) is seeking proposals from firms with experience in exhibition design and fabrication for a 5,000 square foot of temporary exhibition (hereinafter the “Exhibition”) in the soon-to-be-built Kenneth and Sandra Wong Gallery that will showcase the Mactaggart Art Collection. The gallery is located in the Telus International Centre in Edmonton is part of the North Campus at University of Alberta.
The Mactaggart Art Collection is composed of more than 1,000 rare works of art, including textiles, costumes, paintings, handscrolls, albums, engravings, and other artifacts from ancient and modern East Asia.
2. The Services
2.1. The UAM is seeking a visitor-ready approach to complete all the aspects of design proposal, design development (3D and graphic design), interactives (including animation), audio-visuals, fabrication, as well as the installation of graphics, interactives and audio-visuals. A more detailed scope of work is provided in Section 2 of this document.
3. Completion Date
3.1. The exhibition work is tentatively scheduled for completion by February 1, 2027. Please note that this date is subject to change as it is based on the anticipated construction schedule. The University will work with the successful proponent to keep the team informed to the best of their knowledge.
4. Exhibition Budget
4.1. The budget for this Exhibition is $175,000 CDN and is exclusive of taxes. The budget is inclusive of design fees and expenses as well as fabrication and installation of the different components of the exhibition, audio and visual elements, as well as animation.
This budget does not include new photography, artifacts preparation (e.g. conservation) or handling and artifacts installation. Copyrights and licenses are the responsibility of the Contractor.
The Contractor will be responsible for developing and managing the budget in consultation with the UAM to ensure the Exhibition does not go over budget. The Contractor will be expected to provide detailed costing throughout the design phase and with a final price to be approved by UAM before going into fabrication.
