Request for Proposals for Road Gravel Replacement Project
San Miguel County is seeking contractors for surface gravel replacement on various county roads in the Telluride R1 area. Work is to include hauling gravel from San Miguel County's Pathfinder pit until quantities are diminished, then supplying CODT Class VI Base and class II base from a separate source. You will be asked to perform the hauling, spreading, placing, grading, watering and compacting that gravel on road surfaces. Interested bidders please fill in the cost per yard for county supplied gravel and the cost per ton for the privately supplied gravel on the following roads. See attached maps for road locations and Pathfinder pit location.
Also, please include a timeline of when you could begin work and a timeline for completion of placing, grading and compacting gravel on each road. The road surface must be either crowned or graded to allow water to flow and drain into pre-existing roadside ditches and drainage features. Grading with vary depending on location and existing draining features and design. On average, roads shall be graded to have crowned finished surface or cross grade of at least 4%, depending on pre-existing grades. Some roads may require a sub base course of Class II material to re-establish proper grades. We ask that you familiarize yourself with the segments of roads in this packet as each one may have unique features. For calculation purposes, we are estimating 1,100 cubic yards and 1,500 tons per mile.
You may submit bids for individual roads or for all roads on the list. San Miguel County may award each road as a separate contract or multiple roads within the same contract depending on cost or scheduling. San Miguel County wishes to complete as many road miles as possible this summer, continuing next spring and summer if necessary. Quantities or line items may be adjusted up or down, added or removed, depending on the unit cost provided by the bidder. Any contracts that exceed $50,000 will require the contractor to post a bond prior to any activity on the county road or right-of-way.
Any contractors awarded a bid will be expected to meet requirements of the attached "Agreement for services." Interested contractors are invited to submit proposals until 5:00 p.m. on July 21, 2025. Late proposals will not be accepted.
