Wherever in the specifications the name of a certain brand, make, manufacturer, or definite specification is

bidders to the specific brand, make, manufacturer, or specification named; that they are used only to set forth
and convey to prospective bidders the general style, type, character, and quality of the product desired; and that
equivalent products will be acceptable.
The City reserves the right to renew any resultant contract(s), if mutually agreeable with the contractor, for four additional
years in one-year increments with price changes limited to paragraph 7, Price Changes, in the Special Instructions to
Bidders herein.

shall be furnished with a pump and motor. The pump design shall be such that the impeller is
attached directly to the motor shaft.

Rotation
The pump will rotate clockwise when viewed from
the driver’s end.
Impeller
The impeller diameter shall be 9.75” and be a
balanced, non-clogging type made of close-grained
cast iron conforming to ASTM A48 CLASS 30.
The impeller shall be of one-piece, single-suction,
enclosed 2-vane radial-flow design, with well-
rounded leading vanes and a tapered trailing edge
for a circular flow pattern.
The waterways through the impeller will have
extremely smooth contours, devoid of sharp
corners, to prevent rags or stringy, fibrous material
from catching or clogging.
The clearance between the impeller outside
diameter and cutwater shall be capable of passing
a 3” sphere. The impeller is to be balanced and
secured to the motor shaft with a straight fit using a
bolt, washer, and key.
The arrangement shall be such that the impeller
cannot be loosened from torque in either forward or
reverse rotation. Wiper vanes on the back impeller
shroud are not allowed.

Mechanical Seal and Housing
A one-piece cast iron housing with a double
carbon-ceramic mechanical seal shall be
provided.
An internal cast-iron solid gland shall be used to
retain the seal.
Shaft
A common pump and motor shaft machined for a
straight fit at the impeller shall be provided.
A renewable straight shaft sleeve of 304 stainless
steel, positive adhesive sealed to prevent leakage
between the shaft and the sleeve, shall be
furnished.
Motor
A 25 HP, 1765 RPM vertical solid shaft, 3/60 230
Volt electric motor with a drip-proof enclosure,
Class B insulation, and a 1.15 service factor shall
be supplied.
The motor bearing shall be designed to provide a
nominal 40,000-hour L10 bearing life per AFBMA
at the best efficiency point.
Vibration Limitations
The limits of vibration as set forth in the standards
of the Hydraulic Institute shall govern.
Quality Assurance
Pumps are to be engineered and manufactured
under a written Quality Assurance program.
The Quality Assurance program is to be in effect
for a least five years and to include a written
record of periodic internal and external audits to
confirm compliance with the program.
Additional Requirements
The complete pump and/or parts furnished shall be
manufactured by Fairbanks Morse or an approved
equal.
The pump must bear a stainless-steel
manufacturer’s nameplate stating, “Made in the
U.S.A.” or “Assembled in the U.S.A.”
The pump and/or parts being furnished under this
contract must be manufactured by a pump
company that engineered the pump and designed
its castings and not by a company that has reverse
engineered or duplicated the design and castings of
another qualified manufacturer of pumps.
The pump under this contract shall be furnished by
the area authorized factory representative for the
brand being offered.
Any bids submitted for alternate pump
manufacturers, other than those specified, must
include all information needed to fully demonstrate
compliance with these specifications and the
dimensional duplicity of the existing pump
and/or parts.
