Edmonton Public Schools owns and operates over 230 facilities serving approximately 125,000 students.
The Division (Edmonton School Division #7) has the objective of reducing their GHG emissions, reducing their utility and maintenance costs, and most importantly, creating safe and comfortable spaces that promote effective student learning. Few schools currently have cooling, presenting a future-climate risk of endemic classroom overheating.
The Alberta Ecotrust Retrofit Accelerator Program aims to help Alberta building owners reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from existing buildings by offering free coaching and partially funded studies that support retrofit planning. To support this objective, proponents will be engaged to create Deep Retrofit Plans. The Deep Retrofit Plan (DRP, plan) is a combination of an energy audit and a scenario-based impact analysis, with the primary objective of helping inform capital decision-making by the building owner. This plan goes beyond a standard ASHRAE Level 2 or 3 audit by incorporating the development of multiple retrofit pathways and completing financial analyses based on life cycle cost analysis (LCCA).
