Enhanced Target Proofing Station (eTPS)
Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC (LLNS) is seeking qualified sources for the National Ignition Facility’s (NIF) Target Fabrication Group (TFAB) to perform a comprehensive redesign of and build of two enhanced Automated Target Proofing Stations (ATPS). The current ATPS has been in operation for 10+ years, reliably testing NIF cryo and warm targets for gas flow, leak checks, and sensor functional checks, and calibration in a class 100 cleanroom. This system is critical for building successful targets to be shot on the NIF. This project aims to deliver two new systems that incorporate the additional capabilities, such as; improved industrial controls, faster data analysis, higher pressure capabilities, reduced footprint, integrated gas handling and wiring management, improved ergonomics, and easier to maintain. A system that can reliably test NIF targets for the next 15-20 years.
Objective
Modernize the target proofing station design, maintain the existing operational capabilities and interfaces and add the capabilities described in the attached eTPS Project Overview. The modernization should focus on enhancing reliability, maintainability, and compliance with current safety and IT requirements, and ensuring long-term supportability and performance.
Scope of Work
The selected subcontractor will be responsible for:
Design and documentation of a new Automated Target Proofing System (ATPS) – inclusive of hardware, electrical, controls, HMI, etc. based on the specifications and operating parameters that will be supplied using modern supported technologies. Part of the design process will be assessing the current ATPS system to ensure the design incorporates the capabilities of the current system plus the addition of several enhancements. In addition, develop a plan from the design phase through test and integration of the new system.
Build the new system, integrate the new systems with existing mechanical and operational infrastructure. As noted in the eTPS Project Overview, the system can be divided into two major elements, the Platform and the Proofing Station. The integration of these two elements of the system will need to be thoroughly tested prior to delivery to LLNL; validating all functions to ensure seamless operation and compliance with NIF requirements.
