APEX Accelerators are an official government contracting resource for small businesses. Find your local APEX Accelerator (opens in new window) for free government expertise related to contract opportunities.
APEX Accelerators are funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the Department of Defense.
The APEX Accelerators program was formerly known as the Procurement Technical Assistance Program (opens in new window) (PTAP).
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) intends to award a sole source, firm fixed price contract to CEPHEID.
This contract action is being conducted in accordance with FAR Overhaul Part 12.102, Restricting Competition. The Government determined that only one source is reasonably available to meet the current requirement based on the proprietary nature of the existing system configuration, compatibility requirements, and continuity of ongoing operations. The North American Industry Classification System code for this procurement is 325413 - In-Vitro Diagnostic Substance Manufacturing. Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit proposals.
This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals; however, all responses received within fifteen (15) days of the issuance of this notice will be considered by the government. A determination by the government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Any quotation/response should be emailed to the contract specialist Ruben Reyes at qmz3@cdc.gov by 08:00AM, May 29, 2026.
The Government currently utilizes the Cepheid GeneXpert DX system, an automated platform used for rapid detection and analysis of carbapenemase gene markers from rectal swab specimens and wastewater samples in support of public health testing activities.
The GeneXpert DX system has been integrated into the existing laboratory workflow and supports continuity of operations, surge testing capabilities, and ongoing Healthcare Wastewater sampling efforts. The system is also used to support comparative analysis against standard PCR testing methodologies.
Due to the proprietary nature of the GeneXpert DX platform, including manufacturer-specific components, software, maintenance requirements, and warranty conditions, the Government is seeking sources capable of providing authorized support and maintenance services for the existing equipment configuration.
The Government conducted market research, including review of available vendor information and communication with existing maintenance support resources, to identify potential sources capable of supporting the current system. Responses are being requested from vendors authorized to provide maintenance and support services for the Cepheid GeneXpert DX platform.
