Description

FMRIF is seeking maintenance services for a Siemens Magnetom 7T+ MRI scanner (FL #: 400- 342363) to ensure continuous and proper operation of the scanner. This scanner is utilized by researchers primarily in NIMH and NINDS and their staff for a wide array of both clinical and basic research oriented protocols. This scanner was especially crucial to work imaging the development of lesions in multiple sclerosis patients at extremely high resolution, and allowed more insight into the progress of this disease.

It was also extremely critical in the development of Functional MRI of the human brain at cortical layer resolutions, allowing researchers to study how different layers in the cortex transmit information to, and receive information from, other

parts of the brain. The FMRIF 7TA scanner is also extremely valuable for researchers involved in human vision research, and also for radio frequency (RF) hardware development at ultra high field (UHF, i.e. magnetic fields greater than 3 Tesla).
