HHS for Homeownership Counseling and Financial Literacy Services

Project Description: Montgomery County administers a First Time Homebuyers Program (FTHB) which requires a one-on-one pre- and post-purchase counseling session to eligible applicants of the Program. Objective is to provide tentatively approved applicants with the necessary skills to prepare themselves for homeownership, budget properly and provide an overview of the procedures and criteria the County expects from the applicant. The program will offer counseling to applicants who are not approved, providing support and education to address credit and financial management issues that may impede homeownership. Counseling objectives include increasing awareness of budgeting & credit basics, managing credit and credit repair, managing fixed-income, and understanding that financial literacy leads to asset building and financial independence.
