SECTION 2: PROJECT DESCRIPTION
2.1 Owner Information
FCAHS is a public high school serving approximately 550 students in the ninth (9) through
twelfth (12) grades as well as a population of approx. 100 staff members. The District also
has separate Maintenance and District Office facilities. The District currently provides
connectivity to all offices, classrooms, athletic field houses and the gymnasium. On a daily
average the District connects approximately 650-700 personal and District provided devices
to its wireless network. Buildings range in size from 2,000 to approximately 25,000 square
feet.
2.2 Project Description
FCAHS is seeking to upgrade and extend secure wireless coverage to all areas within the
Districts buildings and common areas.
Currently, the District is using Aerohive (Extreme Networks) wireless access points which
provide medium density coverage in all school interior locations as well as specific
exterior areas for staff and student devices. The current solution (ExtremeCloud IQ) is a
controller-less (Cloud managed) solution.
IMPORTANT! The District is interested in receiving pricing for both on premise
controller-based and off premise cloud-based wireless management solutions.
The District currently maintains a self-provisioned fiber WAN between buildings. The campus
LAN utilizes Layer 2 & 3 (inter-vlan routing) Extreme 5000 series switches. The minimum
inter-building connection speed is 1 Gbps. The District has the capability to run at 10G between
buildings if required. There are no known network bottlenecks at this time.
There are currently only two (2) wireless SSID's deployed to all AP's. One is for staff devices
and the other for student devices. We would like to add a "Guest" network portal with the
updated wireless system once installed.
Directory services for Windows devices are provided by on-prem Microsoft Active Directory
servers. The existing wireless system authenticates users by accessing the on premise
domain controllers. The staff wireless SSID has access to those controllers but the student
wireless SSID does not.
Below is a list of all currently installed Access Points and models:
A. Internal APs (Aerohive AP230, AP305C, AP4000): Qty 75
B. External AP (Aerohive AP460): Qty 5
