Bid Description:
The Mount Abraham Unified School District (MAUSD) is accepting proposals from qualifi ed contractors to provide snow removal services for our schools in the district including Bristol Elementary School (BES), Monkton Central School (MCS), Beeman Elementary School (BEE) located in New Haven, Mt. Abraham Union Middle/High School (MTA) located in Bristol and Robinson Elementary School (RES) in Starksboro. This contract will be for the 2025-2026 school year (or longer if you bid on a multi-year contract).
MAUSD will accept 12, 24, 36 month durations with stated increases indicated at and for 12 month intervals. Preference may be given to contracts with durations longer than one year. Bids may be submitted as per hour, per pass, and/or per season. MAUSD is asking bids be submitted in the following groupings:
Group 1: BES & MTA, MCS
Group 2: BEE
Group 3: RES
Group 4: All schools in the district (BEE, BES, MCS, MTA, RES)

Project Specifications & Snow Removal Guidelines
SPECIFICATIONS
Beeman Elementary School - in addition to snow removal, clearing and salting sidewalks, stairs, and walkways are required. Snow must be removed and placed away from the buildings.
Bristol Elementary School - in addition to snow removal, clearing and salting sidewalks and walkways, stairs are required. Plowing or clearing and salting of the front sidewalk that runs parallel with Mountain Street in front of the school (including the stairs) is required. All egress doors should be cleared of snow and salted. The front entrance should be cleared of snow and salted.
Monkton Central School - in addition to snow removal, clearing and salting sidewalks and walkways is required. A safety walk path should be cleared from the parking lot down the path, over the bridge and to the bus loading area by the fi shing access. Snow should be removed to create a path to the playground. Snow should be cleared to create a path around the back of the building including all egress doors/ramps. These areas should also be salted.
Robinson Elementary School - in addition to snow removal,clearing and salting sidewalks and walkways are required. The Route 116 side handicap ramp, stairs and entryway should be cleared and salted. The front entrance should also be cleared and salted along with the sidewalk next to the parking lot. 2
The district will purchase salt for BES and MTA and will store it at the bus barn at MTA. Contractor agrees to load salt into their equipment with school furnished equipment. Contractors are responsible for supplying their own salt and sand for BEE and MCS.
SNOW REMOVAL GUIDELINES
1. Contractor shall provide its own employees, equipment and supplies necessary to complete the services described hereunder which shall include clearing all drive lanes, fi re lanes and parking areas.
2. Contractor will comply with all federal, state and local governmental laws, regulations, codes and ordinances and complete work in a manner consistent with industry practices. Contractor will make all reasonable efforts to have the parking lots and sidewalks cleared by 7:00 am. Parking lots and walkways must be passable and safe before school starts.
3. Contractor will begin plowing at the property as soon as the snow or ice reaches a depth of 3 inches, regardless of the time day or night or the day of the week. If it snows 3 inches or less, Contractor will salt hard surfaces including the sidewalk, stairs and parking lot.
4. For snowfalls of 3"- 6" depth, all snow shall be plowed away from the buildings and pushed to the farthest end of the parking lot. No snow shall be piled up and stacked around light posts, or onto islands or landscaping.
5. For snowfalls of more than 6" depth, all snow shall be plowed away from the buildings. Contractor may windrow snow to each island or light post, upon request; windrows will be removed at no additional cost. Contractor will relocate snow that has accumulated during the term, if such accumulation begins to impair access to the property entrance, fi re lanes, interior roadways or designated parking stalls.
6. All fi re hydrants must be kept free from snow and easily accessible in case of emergencies.
7. When snow begins to fall with heavy and rapid accumulations shortly before or during school hours, Contractor will begin plowing the snow from the parking lot using the fastest method possible. In some cases this means windrowing snow at islands or even light posts and it is understood that the snow will be removed from such places upon request. Stacking snow onto islands may also be necessary, depending upon snowfall accumulation and time limitations. Parking lots and walkways must be passable and safe before school starts.
8. Contractor shall not create drifts in front of dumpster enclosures, fi re lanes, or entrances, on sidewalks or blocking walkways and agrees to remove Contractor created drifts at no additional cost. If Contractor does not remove the drifts in front of the fi re lanes and dumpster enclosures, Contractor agrees to pay any expenses incurred by Owner for removal of said drifts.
9. Contractor shall be responsible for damage to the property caused by snow removal operations including, but not limited to, buildings, curbs, parking blocks, islands, sidewalks, light poles, signs, landscaping, sod removal, paving or striping of the Property or equipment used in connection therewith. At the end of the season, restoration of sod where plow damage has occurred is required.
10.Contractor agrees to contact Joseph Wesley at 802-453-6957, if for some reason the entire property cannot be completely plowed within 4 hours after snow or ice has stopped falling.
11. Contractor agrees to provide the District's Facilities Director with all current after hours telephone numbers.
