APEX Accelerators are funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the Department of Defense.
The APEX Accelerators program was formerly known as the Procurement Technical Assistance Program (opens in new window) (PTAP).
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration requires one (1) newly manufactured benchtop automated liquid handling platform, including a dedicated Windows control computer, instrument control software, adaptors, attachments, installation, user training, technical documentation, a minimum 12-month manufacturer warranty, and ancillary preventative maintenance. The platform must fit and operate within a biosafety cabinet measuring 46 in. W x 24 in. D x 30 in. H that supports 120 lbs without disrupting enclosure airflow; perform serial dilutions across or down a plate using standard disposable tip heads; use interchangeable 96-channel or 384-channel pipetting heads with independent tip pickup capability; provide a minimum 15-position deck; dispense 0.1 to 200 microliters with accuracy and precision no worse than 5% deviation; be configurable for future shaking, heating, cooling, and filtration; support standard 96-well and 384-well microplates; and operate under ambient conditions of 5 to 40 degrees Celsius and 10 to 90 percent relative humidity, non-condensing. The system must include a controller and perpetual workstation-bound software capable of generating custom protocols. Delivery is required within 30 days of award to the FDA White Oak Campus in Silver Spring, Maryland, with installation completed within 90 days of delivery. Installation includes placement, leveling, electrical connections, computer/workstation setup, software installation, calibration, system verification, operational qualification testing, and installation qualification documentation. On-site operator training for up to three personnel is required. The Government has identified the Agilent Technologies Bravo Automated Liquid Handling Platform as a product that meets the requirement. The brand name is referenced for descriptive purposes only; equivalent items that meet all stated salient characteristics will be considered
