Description

The Fort McMurray Forest Area would like to enter a contract for set-up and placement of 2 - 4 person staff quarter sleepers, 2 - wastewater storage holding tanks, and 2 - potable water storage holding tanks. The placement of the sleeper units would be on DRS 240001 near the communities of Fort Fitzgerald and Fort Smith. The Department of Forestry and Parks is to operate in a state of readiness to respond to initial wildfire starts. Currently, there are no facilities in place to house personal to effectively support the Forest Area and Department in wildfire pre-suppression and suppression activities.

The drought conditions in the area of Fort Fitzgerald are of the highest recorded values over the last decade, in conjunction to the second highest value drought code 1102 in the fall of 2023. As of April 1st, the Fort Fitzgerald area is 25% below average of the annual precipitation.

The Fort McMurray Forest Area will require contracted seasonal accommodations during the wildfire season over a three-year period. The sleeper unit will be stationed on-site from May 20, 2025 to September 30, 2025, May 1 to September 30, 2026, and May 1 to September 30, 2027.
