Description:

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, That sealed bids will be received by The Friends of Grant Cottage, at the Ulysses S. Grant Cottage State Historic Site and National Historic Landmark, PO Box 2294, Wilton, NY 12831, until 2:00 P.M. local time on October 27, 2025. The following day, October 28th, at 2:00 P.M. local time, The Friends of Grant Cottage will publicly open and read all sealed bids received pursuant to this notice and in accordance with Section 103 of Article 5A of the General Municipal Law, for the furnishing of all material, labor, equipment and services, tools, techniques, installation, overhead and profit, and appurtenances necessary to complete the Eastern Overlook Trail Accessibility Improvements Project.

Prospective Bidders shall note that the Bid Opening Location will be onsite at the U.S. Grant Cottage State Historic Site and National Historic Landmark, located at 1000 Mt. McGregor Road, Gansevoort, NY 12831.

Project Description: The Work of this Contract, as defined in greater detail by other provisions of the Contract Documents, consists of the following:

1. Base Bid:

a. Eastern Overlook Trail and Stormwater Runoff Management: The Contractor shall perform all necessary work to install the tar and chip asphalt pavement accessible trail (including (2) 6-ft wide segments and (1) 8-ft wide segment) with 1-ft. wide turf shoulders, pedestrian wayfinding sign, swales lining the uphill segments of the trail, and storm line culverts and flared end sections with rip rap daylight areas.

b. Overlook Upgrades: The Contractor shall perform all necessary work to install the tar and chip asphalt pavement gathering area (14-ft. widened pavement), including installation of (3) reinstalled salvaged benches on concrete pad with companion seating spaces.

c. Concrete Pads for Interpretive Signage: The Contractor shall install (3) concrete pads for each of the Add Alternate No. 1 interpretive sign locations (2 standard along the trail, and 1 panoramic at the overlook location).

d. The Contractor shall note that the Base Bid includes all site erosion and sediment control, site preparation, and demolition scope as required to complete the above project scope description and as indicated on drawings G3.0, G4.0, and G5.0, and all site materials, grading, and restoration as indicated on drawings L1.0, L2.0, and L3.0. Refer to the C drawing series for geometric layout and design profile information, and the L4 drawing series for site/civil details.


2. Add Alternate No. 1 (Includes Items 1 thru 4)

a. Item 1: Remove Central Asphalt Walkway: The Contractor shall remove the existing central asphalt walkway and provide site restoration (topsoil and seeding) for the entirety of the footprint of the removed pavement limits as noted on drawing G3.0 and G5.0.

b. Items 2 and 3: Furnish and Install (2) Standard Interpretive Signs: The Contractor shall furnish and install “A Feat of Engineering” and “McGregor’s Vision” standard interpretive signs (surface mounted to Base Bid concrete pads). Digital artwork files for each sign panel will be provided by the Owner to the Contractor.

c. Item 4: Furnish and Install Panoramic Interpretive Sign: The Contractor shall furnish and install “A Historic View” Panoramic Interpretive Sign (surface mounted to Base Bid concrete pad). Digital artwork files for the sign panel will be provided by the Owner to the Contractor.

BID SUBMITTAL AND OPENING

A. The Friends of Grant Cottage will receive sealed lump sum bids until the bid time and date at the location given below. The Friends of Grant Cottage will consider bids prepared in compliance with AIA A701 Instructions to Bidders, and as noted herein, and delivered as follows:

All bidders are encouraged to attend a non-mandatory pre-bid conference scheduled for Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. The meeting will be held at the U.S. Grant Cottage State Historic Site and National Historic Landmark’s Visitor Center, 1000 Mt. McGregor Road, Gansevoort, NY 12831.
