Project Description
23082AMLBAML Reclamation Project
Pike County, Kentucky
The project is located on the property of Johnny Coleman at 204 Doyle Mountain, Huddy, Kentucky. The coordinates for the project area: 37.6021, -82.2705
Project Description:
The home and 2 acre area it sits upon is threatened by slide potential from the pre-law related highwall located on the property and will need to be contained by retaining walls and serviced by new drainage infrastructure. The plan calls for constructing a concrete block wall next to the house structure to secure the loose dirt and rock in that area. Further, down the property there is an exposed rock face that needs to be contained with highwall restoration netting and shotcrete application. Unstable trees (some greater than 3 ), loose dirt, and rock will need to be removed as they pose a danger of sliding off the sheer face. There will be a subdrain installed along the length of the walls and it will be piped out of an existing drainage path. This drainage path will be upgraded with a new under road pipe and new rock ditch that discharges the water into an area that will be armored with erosion discharge material. Utility lines and structures may need to be relocated and this will be done in accordance with AML and utility company specifications.
The waste area is a 9 acre site located off the KY-1056 near Pinsonfork, KY. Coordinates for the waste area: 37.5596, -82.2338. The expected area of disturbance will be approximately 2.6 acres/ Anticipated waste from the project will be dirt, and rock debris that has slid down the highwall due to erosion. Trees from the project will need to be burned at the waste area due to limited space on site. No trees over 3 DBH in the waste area will be disturbed. Any waste will be filled and graded to promote positive drainage. Any revegetation of the waste area will be done to standard AML specifications.
Directions to site: From Frankfort, take I-64 E to the Mountain Parkway. Merge onto Mountain Parkway and continue until the KY-9009 E begins. Take the KY-9009/114 until the junction for US-23 S/US-460 E. Take the US-23 S/US-460 E until the US-119 intersection. Continue until turning onto the US-119 N and follow for 19 miles. Turn right onto Jerry 8th Rd. left onto N Railroad St. and right onto Doyle Mountain. The house is at the top of the hill on this road.
