CBRM requires the services of monitoring and reporting of the five retired landfills and the active C&D landfill. The monitoring is a requirement of provincial legislation as approved in close-out plans submitted for each site. The five sites are:
1. The former Cape Breton County landfill @ Woodbine Rd., Prime Brook
2. The former Town of North Sydney landfill site @ King Street, North Sydney
3. The former Town of Glace Bay landfill site @ #11 location Brookside Street, Glace Bay
4. The former Town of New Waterford former landfill site @ Daley Rd, New Victoria
5. The former Town of Dominion landfill site @ Wallner Lane, Dominion
In addition to the above 5 sites CBRM is also required to undertake monitoring of the active C&D disposal site operated at the waste management site @ SPAR Rd. This site includes the former city of Sydney landfill and county of Cape Breton landfill. Collectively the site is referred to as the MAID (Municipal Ash Industrial Disposal) site.
