Solicitation Description:

The State Preservation Board (SPB) is charged with a unique and multifaceted mission: to preserve, maintain, and restore the historic properties, office buildings, grounds, and parking facilities entrusted to its stewardship. This responsibility includes ensuring the integrity, safety, and longevity of these assets in accordance with applicable standards and best practices.

Pursuant to Texas Government Code Section 443.007, General Powers and Duties of Board and Section 2156.121, Use of Competitive Sealed Proposals, the State Preservation Board (SPB) is requesting responses to this Request for Proposal from qualified wood refinishing contractors to refinish the original 1888 Bois D’Arc wood handrails mounted atop cast iron balustrades at the Texas Capitol, in place, preserving their architectural integrity and finish.

The purpose of this project is to restore the historic Bois D’Arc handrails. The work includes:

• The four-story East and West Grand staircases flanking the rotunda

• The three-story service staircases located in both the east and west wings

• Work is to be performed between 6:00PM and 6:00AM

The selected contractor(s) shall complete the refurbishment of the handrails in full compliance with current OSHA and ADA standards, applicable construction and building codes, and all specifications outlined in Attachment A – Scope of Work and Attachment B – Plans and Imagery. All materials and workmanship must meet or exceed prevailing industry standards.
