Overview
Summary

Objective

Volusia County is seeking proposals from qualified electrical service contractors to provide electrical services required by exhibitors, production companies, and other patrons of the Ocean Center. The contractor will be responsible for providing electrical installation and support services in the Exhibit Halls, Arena, and other designated locations on an as needed basis.

Experience Requirements

  • Contractors must have prior experience with electrical installations for exhibitors and production companies.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle large-scale installations within tight deadlines, particularly during event set-up and dismantling.

Other Responsibilities

  • Ensure all electrical work complies with local safety codes and regulations.
  • Maintain open communication with Ocean Center staff to address any potential issues during events.
  • Provide emergency response for any electrical failures during event times.
  • Compensation will be based on a revenue-sharing model, with the contractor receiving 70% of the total price collected from exhibitors and production companies based on the Ocean Center’s published pricing structure (See Exhibit A for current prices).

Background

The Ocean Center’s show services model is a hybrid approach, combining both in-house teams and third-party contractors hired by event organizers. We are transitioning toward handling the majority of shows internally, ensuring greater control over service quality and retaining revenues. However, for larger shows where our existing human capital is insufficient to meet the demands of installation and removal, third-party support becomes necessary. One of the challenges we face is the difficulty in hiring qualified temporary staff to supplement our full-time labor. As a solution, we intend to contract with third-party providers who act as an extension of our in-house staff. This allows us to maintain control over who operates on our floor, ensure consistency in pricing, and take a percentage of the revenue generated by these services.
