QUESTIONS & ANSWERS No. 5
Issued: March 6, 2026
Whitehaven Clinic Construction
(Health Services Department)
TO ALL PROSPECTIVE BIDDERS:
The following question(s) were submitted by potential bidders with answers listed below in red:
Question & Answers #2, indicated in the reply to Q-23 that the “Medical equipment is
OFOI.” The Exam Tables (TB-6) would appear to be “Medical Equipment” and thus
OFOI. Please clarify if that is NOT correct. The contractor is to bid equipment as
scheduled. The exam table is considered furniture and is scheduled as such and is shown
on the A-900 series sheets from Addendum No. 6.
The specifications for the structural steel require that both the Structural Steel Fabricator and
the Erector be AISC Certified. This has been raised several times in the past, as there is not an
AISC Certified Fabricator in the Memphis area. The closest one is in Nashville. Typically, this is
changed to require that the Fabricator and Erector follow AISC guidelines and procedures, which
they all do as an industry standard. If we can get pricing from the fabricator in Nashville, it will
be considerably more expensive due to not only the additional shipping cost, but the cost
associated with AISC as well. Please clarify if doing the work per the AISC standards will be
acceptable.
Contractor is to bid the Documents as specified
Good morning. We have been doing our best to assist subcontractors with their plethora
of questions, in the same manner that you have answered a multitude of GC
questions. The following likely just needs a clarification, but for now, it has me stumped
and I could use your help: (1) On Sheets A-131-A & B, you have two Security
Desks. A portion of both desks has a radiused front, the problem is that said front also
has solid surface Quartz laminated to it (the details on A-210 and A-507 confirm the
quartz veneer). This product does not bend. Can you please clarify what the radiused
1
portion of these two desks needs to be given the called-out product’s limitations? Quartz
can be bent to a radius if heated use a process called thermoforming. (2) On RFI
Response #2, you address Question #174 as stating the Dental Clinic has been “re-
purposed” as office space and all associated Dental Clinic “exam rooms” and their related
millwork no longer exist, can you please give a listing of these rooms by room number so
that there is no confusion. We will not provide the rooms numbers affected on the 3rd
floor. The bidding GC needs to compare the initial sheets with the revised sheets issued
under Addendum No. 6. I would not be opposed to another bid-date extension (maybe 2-
weeks) in order to make sure all interested bidders are clear on the RFI’s and addenda
and addenda drawings. The due date will not be extended and remains March 16, 2026
@ 2:00 p.m.
