Fen Restoration

The Genesee Region of New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (NYSOPRHP) is soliciting quotes for two rounds of herbicide treatments to be applied to Phragmites australis (Common Reed Grass), and Phalaris arundinacea (Reed Canary Grass), in two separate fens located within Letchworth State Park. The project sites total approximately 10 acres of wet or seasonally wet park land within the North Fen and separately in the East Fen. The combined treatment areas cover approximately two acres within the total 10-acre project (Figures 1, and 2, Appendix A). A total of four treatments shall occur, one in late spring and one early fall at both sites no less than 21 days apart. Exact treatment dates TBD within the windows given below with consideration to weather and standing water/precipitation. See “Treatment in 2025” section for treatment timelines.
