The District of Columbia (the “District”) Department of General Services (the “Department” or “DGS”), is issuing this Invitation for Bids (“IFB” or “Solicitation”) to solicit the services of a General Contractor (the “Contractor”) to provide construction services as well as permit-approved drawings based on the attached Basis of Design Drawings and Basis of Design Specifications (Attachment A and Attachment B, respectively) for the Engine Company 6 (“EC6”) located at 1300 New Jersey Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20001.
Engine House 6 originally opened in 1879 as Metropolitan Hook & Ladder Company. Later, Engine House 6 relocated to 1300 New Jersey Avenue NW. July 8, 1974 and is currently occupied by the District of Columbia’s Fire and EMS Department. Engine House 6 is a two-story, concrete-framed fire station and is of Construction Type IA.
The building is situated on parcel of land comprised of 11 lots totaling 0.72 acre (31,360 gross square feet) and is bounded by New Jersey Avenue NW on the east with Dunbar High School beyond, N Street NW to the south with commercial and residential properties beyond, and residential properties on the remaining sides. This Engine House is not currently listed on the District of Columbia’s Inventory of Historic Properties.
