Project Description: This project aims to identify and develop alternatives to mitigate, through offsetting and/or treatment, the 6 MGD of drinking water supply to meet maximum contaminant limits for PFAS. The initial efforts of Carollo to develop a conceptual design and cost estimate for PFAS revealed challenges for implementing treatment alternatives including land acquisition, anticipated stakeholder resistance, and high capital and operations and maintenance costs.
This project intends to expand the alternatives analysis to include non-treatment alternatives to replace (or makeup) the 4th Avenue drinking water supply of up to 6 MGD. Further, additional treatment alternatives will also be included based on Carollo’s work as well as Nanofiltration/Reverse Osmosis (NF/RO) and/or novel media.
It is SLCDPU’s intent to implement recommended mitigation solutions through their capital project program. Implementation may include preliminary design, detailed design, and bid and construction phase services based on the findings of Phase 1 – Alternative Analysis and Phase 2 - Preliminary Design. These phases of the project will be defined at a later date and may or may not be included within this Project.
