Description

Hurricane Helene winds damaged approximately 25 acres on Roan Mountain and has increased the fuel loading in the spruce-fir ecosystem. Work includes cutting and removing all damaged trees within the cutting unit boundary totaling 25 acres. Sawtimber, pulpwood and biomass products will be removed from the site. Including trees chunked to open the Toll House Gap Road. Sawtimber, pulpwood, and biomass will be removed and paid at an appraised rate on a weighted average. Contractor will be required to leave some amount of stems per acre with no branches for woody debris.



Estimated Timber Volume and Species composition is as follows:



Mixed Hardwood and Softwood Sawtimber estimated 250 Tons



Mixed Hardwood and Softwood Pulpwood estimated 150 Tons



Mixed Hardwood and Softwood Biomass estimated 250 Tons



Pre-Solicitation Site Visit Date and Time:



Prior to solicitation, the Forest will hold a site visit for prospective contractors to facilitate dialogue on contractual requirements that are anticipated in the contract and any operational limitations foreseen by attendees. The site visit will be held on May 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. EST with a meeting location at Toll House Gap Road, Roan Mountain, NC.

It is anticipated that the Request for Quotes with all attachments shall be issued on or around May 7, 2025. The contract shall be awarded using a best value source selection method; the resulting contract shall be a firm fixed price commercial services contract.
