.2 Working with the Capital Infrastructure Planner who led the IDP / FMP planning process as well as the designated Project Manager, the work to be accomplished under this project includes:
.1 New Campground Development at Writing-On-Stone Provincial Park – Áísínai'pi Management Unit:
.1 Group Camping Area(s): approximately twenty (20) powered campsites, a potable water connection with a few access points (taps), camping registration, a group use firepit, campground amenities (a few vault toilets as well as garbage / recycling receptacles), campground markers and potentially a group picnic shelter.
.2 New Equestrian Staging Area: granular or asphalt road, car/truck parking, horse trailer parking, horse loading / unloading area, amenities (a vault toilet as well as garbage / recycling receptacles) and accessible equestrian mount / dismount ramp. Adherence with best management practices for equine welfare.
.3 New Horse Handling Area: horse corrals with shade and wind protection to support approximately 18 horses, manure management infrastructure, horse hitches and a potable water source for equestrian use. Adherence with best management practices for equine welfare.
.4 Trailhead: amenities (garbage/recycling receptables, etc.) and site furnishings (benches, informational kiosk, etc.).
.5 Equestrian Trail: an equestrian trail from the trailhead near the equestrian staging area in the new campground development to the backcountry equestrian trail network (i.e. backcountry trailhead at valley level). This requires one crossing through the Milk River. The river crossing does not require any infrastructure or site disturbance. Adherence with best management practices for equine welfare.
.6 Pedestrian Trail: a pedestrian trail from the trailhead near the equestrian staging area in the new campground development to the Visitor Centre. The existing trail from the Visitor Centre will connect visitors to existing interpretive trails / viewpoints as well as amenities in the Milk River Valley below (the existing campground, shop, showers, beach, etc.).
.7 Screening for wind / shade: native vegetation and fencing.
.8 Internal Campground Roadways: granular or asphalt, robust for maximum size trucks / trailers (and their turning radii).
.9 Internal Pedestrian Trails: granular or asphalt, detailed design to support equestrian use (even if not designated for equestrian use).
.10 Temporary above ground irrigation system: to support vegetation establishment / long-term viability of plantings. This shall be specified in tender documents with the expectation that park staff will maintain / operate the system for approximately ten (10) years.
.2 New Campground Development at Writing-On-Stone Provincial Park – Coffin Bridge Management Unit:
.1 Camping: approximately ten (10) non-serviced campsites, camping registration, campground amenities (garbage / recycling receptacles) and campground markers.
.2 Internal Campground Roadway: granular or asphalt to support typical campsite use (typical recreational vehicles and their associated turning radii).
.3 Pedestrian Trail: a granular or asphalt pedestrian trail from the new campground development to the existing vault toilet and the hand-launch boat ramp.
.4 Modest site furnishings (benches, informational kiosk, etc.) should be included as well.
.3 All new campground development:
.1 Native vegetation strategies that are viable long-term in their natural ecosystems.
.2 Implementation of the Crown Land Infrastructure Standard Development Guidelines, current edition, where feasible.
.3 Effective / safe vehicular and pedestrian flow.
.4 New signage using Alberta Parks standard sign catalogue.
.5 Adhere to Alberta Parks Accessibility Construction Guidelines, current edition, wherever reasonably possible.
.6 Reduce operational / maintenance burden, wherever reasonably possible.
.7 Compliance with environmental / regulatory requirements.
.8 Employment of FireSmart Principles.
.9 Consideration for Prime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED).
.10 Management of noxious weeds to be specified in tender documents.
