The BPMD IROD Anglo Saxon Stabilization and Revegetation work consists of final grading and stabilization of waste rock and revegetation of half an acre. The Anglo Saxon mine is listed on the National Priority List as one of the 48 mines and mineral processing sites on Bonita Peak Mining District (BPMD) Superfund site. Additionally, the Anglo Saxon is part of the EPAs 2019 Interim Record of Decision (IROD) to route mine drainage and stormwater around waste rock. The work done under this project to regrade and revegetate the waste rock will help protect the drainage routing remedies that are already in place at the site. On August 25th, 2024, the Anglo Saxon crib wall that retained the mine waste off of County Road 110 collapsed. EPA Removal contracted with Environmental Restoration (ER) LLC and the remaining wall sections were dismantled, the timbers removed, and the waste rock pile was laid back. The emergency response work completed was not the final configuration of the waste rock because of the quick response nature of the work as well as the need to gather community input on the final plans for the site. EPA consulted with the BPMD Planning Group and final grading and revegetation was selected as the preferred action, as opposed to rebuilding a historic looking crib wall.
