Environment and Protected Areas
Bow Habitat Station (BHS) is a public environmental education centre providing over 250K Albertans each year with access to experiential learning opportunities that foster conservation and stewardship of Alberta’s fish, water and ecosystems. These learning opportunities are facilitated through its Discovery Centre and Aquariums, home to 12 flow-through, freshwater aquaria. Maintaining pristine water quality is essential to the health and well-being of the aquatic species of the aquaria.
Pathogen management using ultraviolet filtration is a key part of the water filtration system for 20+ fish species and approximately 200 fish housed in the aquariums. This project will improve water quality and overall fish health through the installation of a new UV system able to address current and emerging pathogens of concern, and reduce the ongoing care required for prevention of algae and other particle build-up.
