PRE-SOLICITATION NOTICE
UPGRADE SANITARY AND STORM SYSTEMS PROJECT AT THE SMITHSONIAN NATIONAL MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY, LOCATED IN WASHINGTON, DC
The Smithsonian Institution (SI) is seeking offers to Upgrade Sanitary and Storm Systems project at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, located in Washington DC.
The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this action is 236220 and the small business size standard is $45M.
PROJECT INFORMATION: The scope of this project includes the installation of a new sanitary and stormwater system throughout the Museum Main Building, East and West Wings to replace the existing infrastructure that has reached the end of its service life. Work must be executed with extreme care to protect the museum’s collections, exhibits, and research operations, and preserve its historic architecture features.
The major elements of work include, but are not limited to, the following:
All work must be conducted in accordance with applicable codes, historic preservation requirements, safety regulations, and Smithsonian Institution design and construction standards. Phasing plans must minimize disruption to ongoing museum operations, protect the public, and preserve the integrity of historic and scientific assets.
The Period of Performance for the Base and Options, if exercised, is 730 Calendar Days from the date of Notice to Proceed.
Total Estimated cost range is between is over $10 million.

Project will be located at 10th Street & Constitution Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20560.

THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL. The full solicitation, request for proposals, will be released on or about early March 2026; however, there is no guarantee or implication of a guarantee this this project will be solicited. Responses will be due within (45) days of release. Electronic copies will be uploaded to SAM.gov site. This notice does not obligate the Government to award a contract or otherwise pay for the information provided in response.
The Smithsonian Institution will accept proposals from all qualified offerors. The Smithsonian Institution’s evaluation panel will be the sole entity to determine as to whether an offeror is capable of meeting the requirements to carry out contract performance.
