Overview
Summary

The County Commissioners of Charles County are seeking proposals from qualified engineering firms to survey, design, and prepare Bid Documents for the construction of a Water Treatment Facility (WTF) for the proposed WSSC Water-Waldorf Route 301 Interconnection project.

Charles County Government is launching a multi-phase Water Supply Program to accommodate the anticipated population growth within the County. The first phase involves constructing a new interconnection pipeline between the Waldorf System and WSSC Water at a new connection point located at the northernmost end of the distribution system along Route 301 (referred to as the Route 301 Interconnection). This pipeline will enable the purchase and distribution of up to an additional 5.0 million gallons per day (mgd) of water from WSSC Water. The proposed Route 301 Interconnection will introduce a significantly larger volume of surface water into the Waldorf System, which has historically relied solely on groundwater. As a result, the WTF will be essential in addressing water quality issues, specifically by removing disinfection byproducts (DBPs) that may accumulate due to high water age. The WTF will also address the challenges associated with mixing two different water sources: the highly treated surface water from the WSSC Water System and the minimally treated groundwater from the Waldorf System.
