Summary:This project proposes improvements to approximately 2,250 linear feet of South Walter Reed Drive, between 5th Street South and Columbia Pike. The scope includes multi-modal street improvements such as protected bike lanes, sidewalk improvements, intersection realignments, driveway apron upgrades, full depth asphalt replacement, milling and paving, landscaped medians, and floating island bus stops. Additional work includes stormwater drainage upgrades, pavement markings, and signage.
Phase 1 will focus on the intersection of 9th Street South on the intersection of 9th Street South and South Walter Reed Drive, including signal installation, which will be completed first.
The project will coordinate with adjacent developments, including the Arlington Public Schools project along the western frontage between 7th Street South and 9th Street South, as well as the Columbia Pike Multimodal Street Improvements – around the intersection Columbia Pike and South Walter Reed Drive.
