Buffalo Pound Erosion and Earthworks Repair
Synopsis:

Buffalo Pound Dam is located approximately 30 kilometers northeast of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on the Qu’Appelle River. The embankment on the north end of the dam is built on soft alluvial clays and has experienced historical settlement. WSA intends to hire a General Contractor to mitigate seepage concerns and improve stability by installing a sheet pile cut-off wall within the embankment dam, north of the control structure, in the vicinity of an oxbow in the Qu’Appelle River.

The construction scope of work includes:

  • Cofferdamming to facilitate construction including all Care of Water activities necessary
  • Supply and installation of sheet piling
  • Earthworks to repair erosion and animal burrowing on the east side of the embankment near the oxbow
  • Supply and installation of rip rap on the downstream slope
  • Haul and installation of rip rap on the upstream slope
  • Supply and installation of miscellaneous road signage and markers
Additional Information:

WSA is a Treasury Board Crown corporation within the meaning of The Crown Corporations Act, 1993 (Saskatchewan) that is governed by The Water Security Agency Act (Saskatchewan). WSA is responsible for water management in the Province of Saskatchewan, which includes managing the Province’s water supply, protecting water quality, ensuring safe drinking water and the treatment of wastewater, reducing flood and drought damage, protecting aquatic habitat, and managing dams and related supply channels.
