Description:

The work for the RIVER ROAD CULVERT REPLACEMENT shall consist of culvert replacing the culvert on River Road conveying an unnamed stream approximate 300’ north of Ferry Road including, but not be limited to, the complete and satisfactory construction of the following:

• Remove existing twin 24” diameter CMP/HDPE culverts with a new 6’ (rise) x 16’ (span) x 73’ (length) concrete box culvert and gabion basket walls and riprap embankments in accordance with the US Army Corps of Engineers permit (USACE) in Appendix B.

• Provide bypassing, dewatering, and erosion control measures during construction in accordance with Maine DEP BMP manual and USACE permit in Appendix B.

• Support and protect existing 12” high pressure steel gas main. The contractor shall submit a utility protection plan to Unitil for approval prior to the start of construction.

• Reconstruct approximately 150’ of River Road. Grind butt joints as needed. Repair lawn areas as necessary with loam, seed, and mulch.

• Remove and replace approximately 290’ of guardrail with flared terminal ends.

• River Road may be closed to traffic for no more than 12 continuous calendar days. The closure shall start on a Monday and end on a Friday.

No Proposal will be considered unless it is accompanied by a bid security in the form of a bid bond or certified check in the amount of five percent (5%) of the total bid price, made out in favor of the City of Lewiston. All bid securities will be released upon deliverance of a signed Contract or, if no Contract award is made, within forty-five (45) days after the opening of the Proposals, unless forfeited as herein stipulated.
A Performance Bond and a Labor and Material Payment Bond, preferably executed on AIA Bond Form Number A311, in an amount equal to the total Contract price, of a surety company satisfactory to the Purchasing Agent, will be required of the successful bidder to ensure completion of the work and the proper fulfillment of the conditions of the Contract. The total Contract price shall mean the total bid price as stated in the Proposal based on the estimated quantities of the various items of work.
