Medical Consultancy for Calgary Fire Department (CFD) required to provide medical consultant and advice to CFD for medical operational issues.
CFD staff may be the first emergency responders to arrive at an incident and may provide medical treatment to individuals at the incident scene (such treatment is referred to as Medical First Response).
The CFD, as a large metropolitan fire department, provides several services to the citizens of Calgary that are outside the scope of Medical First Response and requires medical consultation and advice for these activities.
Responsibilities of he consultant include services such as:
- Assist in building sound medical support for CFD special teams including, but not limited to, water rescue, high angle rescue, heavy rescue, airport services, "Chemical, Biological, Radiological, & Nuclear, & Explosive" (CBRNE) and hazmat;
- Provide medical leadership in building a functional Incident Rehabilitation Protocol and response;
- Assist CFD administration with interagency communications and planning related to medical issues, including the management of Health Information pursuant to the HIA; and
- Make changes to the Physician schedule for providing Services, when necessary and possible, to accommodate CFD scheduling.
It is estimated that CFD may require up to six additional hours per week (0.15FTE, 312 hours/year) of such medical consultation and advice.
