The Office of Food Security has launched the “Food Security Innovation Pilot Grant” to encourage technology-driven, consumer-focused, and data-informed approaches that go beyond a traditional food distribution model that will improve food access to residents across Mercer County, focusing on addressing food deserts in Trenton. Funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), this grant provides direct funding for innovative approaches to food insecurity in Mercer County. This program aligns with ARPA’s mission to address systemic barriers to equitable food access. By leveraging these funds, Mercer County can ensure that food security solutions are not simply immediate relief but transformative initiatives that will strengthen our county’s system.
Through this grant program, $200,000 in funding will be awarded to support eligible nonprofits that introduce innovative efficiencies, alternative food access models, or system improvements to better serve food-insecure residents. Organizations may apply for tiered funding, with all awarded funds required to be utilized within the contracted period of July 1, 2025, through December 31, 2026.
Organizations serving food-insecure communities across Mercer County are encouraged to apply for this funding to support innovative strategies. Selected organizations must demonstrate the ability to serve food-insecure residents across Mercer County, with priority given to initiatives that directly target Trenton’s food deserts. Recognizing that sustainable solutions require strong partnerships, preference will be given to organizations demonstrating collaboration with other nonprofits to maximize impact.
A Technical Assistance session is scheduled, Wednesday April 9, 2025, at 1:00 PM (Registration Required!)
Proposals must be received by April 15, 2025, 12:00pm (prevailing time).
The County is not responsible for late submissions.
