Village of Westfield Downtown Amphitheater Project

The Village of Westfield is seeking final design and engineering services for a project funded

jointly by the New York State’s Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP),

with Environmental Protection Funds and the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC).

The project will be administered by the Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation

and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) acting as the basic agency to oversee

ARC funding.

Preliminary engineering and site assessment was completed in 2023. The Amphitheater will be located on the site of the Portage Inn within the boundaries of the Village of Westfield, on North Portage Street. The primary goal of the project is to create a unique public recreational asset to support the downtown district and link downtown Westfield to the invaluable natural resources along Chautauqua Creek. This project involves the construction of an outdoor terraced amphitheater with a seating capacity of three hundred. The project site will include an ADA-compliant upper terrace featuring a ramp and dedicated handicapped parking. The project is meant to take a vacant property once known as the Portage Inn and develop a vibrant open space for the public to relax in and a venue for outdoor community performances and children's programming. The Village currently owns the project site and plans to retain ownership. The project will provide open space that is walkable and will provide access to the arts, publicly accessible performances, and a place for local organizations to run programing for afterschool and summer programs.
