Scope
|
The Office of the County Attorney (OCA) provides legal advice and services to County departments, agencies, boards and commissions, as well as the County Council. Currently there are about 55 staff attorneys and 25 legal support staff to handle legal issues, and provide opinions, prepare and present legislation, negotiate and prepare agreements and other documents on behalf of the County, draft resolutions and ordinances, acquire and convey title to real property, and represent the County in court and before various administrative bodies. As counsel to one of the largest and most populous Counties in Maryland, the Office of the County Attorney collects and generates huge amounts of electronic data on a daily basis. This includes the emails, documents and many other forms of electronically stored information (“ESI”) that are often used in the discovery phase during litigation and investigations as well as for responding to Maryland Public Information Act (“MPIA”) requests. Annually, OCA handles an average of 230 lawsuits and 60 Maryland Public Information Act requests. OCA requires the capability to effectively manage and review ESI during litigation and to efficiently respond to MPIA requests. |
