The project is located on Highway 17 from the Sault Ste. Marie north city limits, northerly for 14 kilometres to the Goulais River Bridge. The work is for grading, drainage, granular base, hot mix paving, electrical and structural culvert rehabilitation. It is anticipated that nineteen (19) centreline culverts will be replaced or rehabilitated with 3 in deep fill conditions which will utilize trenchless technology and/or grade lowering/widening. Four (4) pavement distress areas are currently identified for treatment as well as extensive widening with earth and rock of the “Mile Hill” location to maintain one lane of traffic in each direction. Rock excavation to clear zone and machine scaling in several rock hazard areas are also included. The Root River North and Root River South structural culverts will be rehabilitated.
