Description

The District of Houston (the “District”) seeks proposal from consulting firms with expertise in climate action and adaptation planning. The Houston Climate Action Plan will seek to adapt and mitigate the effects of climate change on the District of Houston. We are a rural municipality with a small population base of approximately 3000. The District’s economy focuses on agriculture, forestry, mining, and tourism. The comprehensive strategy is intended to provide the District of Houston with a plan to adapt to and mitigate the current and future impacts of climate change, through 2050, on the District’s citizens. The District has secured grant funding to support this initiative and any successful consultant should be familiar with the Province of BC’s report: Climate Preparedness and Adaptation Strategy | Actions for 2022-2025 and in meeting Provincial targets. The anticipated budget for all project costs is approximately $50,000.

The successful proponent is expected to be an expert in the development of climate action assessment, plans and stakeholder engagement. Experience should include: Rural and small community climate action plans; community, stakeholder and indigenous engagement; climate adaptation and climate scenarios; climate risk and vulnerability assessments; greenhouse gas emissions reduction projections and targets – both corporate and community; low carbon resilience and integration of co-benefits of climate mitigation and adaption.
