Summary

The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) Special Response Team (SRT), a division of the Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS), is issuing this Request for Information (RFI) to obtain information and recommendations for available drone platforms suitable for indoor and tactical operations.
This RFI is for information gathering and market research purposes only. Responses will assist OSHP/SRT in understanding available solutions, implementation strategies, cost structures, and best practices to guide potential future procurement activities.
Participation in this RFI is voluntary and does not guarantee inclusion in, or award from any subsequent solicitation.
The OSHP/SRT mission is to enhance the safety, effectiveness, and operational readiness of our Special Response Team through the integration of advanced indoor and tactical Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). In support of this mission, we are committed to identifying and deploying a next-generation drone platform that enables safe, efficient, and intelligence-driven operations in high-risk environments.
This initiative seeks to ensure that our tactical teams are equipped with reliable, NDAA-compliant technology that supports real-time situational awareness, secure communications, and seamless integration with the Division’s existing DroneSense program.

Section 1: Purpose

The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) Special Response Team (SRT), a division of the Ohio Department of Public Safety

(ODPS), is issuing this Request for Information (RFI) to obtain information and recommendations for available drone platforms

suitable for indoor and tactical operations.

This RFI is for information gathering and market research purposes only. Responses will assist OSHP/SRT in understanding

Section 2: Drone Platform Overview

The OSHP/SRT seeks information on a drone platform specifically designed for indoor and tactical operations to support

the mission of the Special Response Team (SRT). This drone will serve as a critical tool for enhancing situational awareness,

reducing risk to personnel, and improving operational outcomes during high-stress missions such as room clearing and

building entry.

The Division’s Special Response Team (SRT) currently utilizes tactical drones to enhance officer and public safety during

high-risk operations, including room and building clearing missions. Due to procurement restrictions, the Division is no longer

able to purchase the drones currently in use (DJI). Therefore, we are exploring comparable or superior alternatives that

meet operational, technical, and regulatory requirements.

In addition to other requirements, the drone must be compliant with the anticipated restrictions from the National Defense

Authorization Act of 2025.

Section 3: Solution Information Requested

OSHP/ SRT requests respondents to provide detailed information addressing the following categories:

• Designed for indoor flight (tight/confined spaces)

• Operates in GPS-denied environments

• Supports tactical room/building clearing missions

• Provides real-time video feed

• Provides real-time audio communication

• Enables pre-entry reconnaissance

• Supports officer and public safety operation

B. System Requirements

• Supports officer and public safety operation

• Fully compatible with DroneSense platform

• Supports live streaming to command units

• Allows mission logging and playback

• Offers remote control via secure app or controller

• Firmware updates and support available
