Alberta Energy Regulator
The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is undertaking the Urban Abandoned Well Testing Program to gather data from a representative selection of abandoned oil and gas wells located within urban boundaries across Alberta, including cities, towns, villages, and summer villages. Many of these wells were drilled prior to urban expansion and before amendments to Sub-division development regulations required identification of aban-doned wells near new developments. This initiative aligns with our commitment to pub-lic safety and environmental stewardship. The wells included in this program are li-censed to insolvent entities. The purpose of this initiative is to support a preliminary assessment of these wells and current regulatory mechanisms. The AER seeks a con-tractor to assist with locating targeted wells and performing methane testing activities.
