♦ The Larissa Drive (3305) Slope Mitigation project site is located in the Silver Lake area of Los Angeles, approximately 1/3rd of a mile northwest of the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Silver Lake Boulevard. The project site consists of an approximately 20 to 40-foot high and 170-foot long very steep slope that descends eastwardly from the back of the sidewalk along Larissa Drive towards the private commercial property at 3300 Sunset Boulevard. In the 1960’s, a portion of the slope was improved and covered with gunite to control erosion. In 2022, the gunite became distressed and extensively cracked and a portion of the gunite failed and shifted toward the building at 3300 Sunset Boulevard. The failed section was subsequently removed as an emergency project. Approximately 6,500 square feet of gunite remains in a distressed and damaged condition and is no longer effectively mitigating erosion from the slope. In addition, the distressed condition of the gunite makes it susceptible to further failure which may result in damage to the building at 3300 Sunset Boulevard.
♦ The project will demolish the remaining 6,500 square feet of gunite slope covering. Scaling and removal and disposal of approximately 200 cubic yards of loose soils and bedrock on the slope will also be performed. The gunite will be replaced with approximately 9,800 square feet of high-strength steel wire mesh which will be secured to the slope using an array of soil nail anchors installed at 8-foot horizontal and 8-foot vertical spacing. An erosion control matting will be installed between theslope face and the wire mesh. Approximately 152 soil nails ranging from 13 to 29 feet in depth will be installed to secure the wire mesh on the slope face.
♦ The project site is located on property owned by the City of Los Angeles, Department of Recreation and Parks.
♦ All construction on this project is required to be completed in 120 calendar days.
